The pantheon of the world has not been fully detailed, with only a dozen or so identified dieties. This thread will include descriptions of the Powers worshipped by people in this world. These powers may also find their way into Dungeonworld, as well.
I'll start with four new ones, and add more along the way.
Altrinon, Neutral Good Greater Power of Good, Healing, Magic, and Craft
Also known as The Maker, Artificer, and to close friends: Heaven’s Handyman
Portfolio: Smithing, Crafts, Medicine, Magical Creations
Favored Weapon: Warhammer
Holy Symbol: Golden Hammer
Obscure legends place Altrinon at the forge that created many of the world’s most legendary artifacts. Followers of Altrinon are fond of creating and fixing all sorts of things mundane or magical, inanimate or living, and many worshipers are both clerics and wizards. Altrinon is depicted by everyday folk as a kind-hearted smith with a great leather apron, though those who understand magic see him as a bearded bespectacled inventor with a bald pate.
Ryskhol, Chaotic Evil Intermediate Power of Chaos, Evil, War, and Hatred
Also known as Blightbringer, Bedlam’s Fury, Order’s Undoing
Portfolio: Oppression, Pestilence, War
Favored Weapon: Spiked Chain
Holy Symbol: Manacles with a broken chain
Ryskhol loves death and destruction. Wherever there is war and strife, Ryskhol’s presence is seen. He abhors order and law, and does whatever he can to encourage discord when there is harmony. Even when his forces are victorious, he encourages mistreatment of underlings and captives, in the hopes that they will rise up and perpetuate the cycle of violence. Followers of Ryskhol are prone to sudden outbursts of violence, much like a mime with Tourette Syndrome. Formerly a demon lord, Ryskhol takes many forms, but most of them are winged and toothy.
Orluzy, Neutral Lesser Power of Knowledge, Luck, and Fate
Also known as “The Right Hand”, Influencer, Decider, and Tilter of Coins
Portfolio: Advisors, Balance, Luck
Favored Weapon: Mace (scepter)
Holy Symbol: Scepter crossed over a crown
Orluzy is counselor to the gods, and arbiter of godly disputes, at least when the gods are civil enough to use arbitration. Many of Orluzy’s followers are themselves advisors in some capacity, either to the hierarchies of other churches, or to the rulers of societies. Those facing difficult decisions might pray to Orluzy – not for guidance, necessarily, but to help influence the unknown future. There are some that say that “luck” is truly just the whim of Orluzy.
Fonor, Neutral Good Lesser Power of Good, Protection, Travel, and Air
Also known as Sailor’s Wind, the Roadkeeper, and the Wanderer.
Portfolio: Roads, Rivers, Seas, Travel
Favored Weapon: Quarterstaff
Holy Symbol: Shooting star
The constellation of Fonor moves constantly through the heavens, and astrologers argue whether Fonor has ever been in the same place more than once. (His “constellation” is actually a cluster of comets, always within sight in the night sky) Travelers and sailors usually pray to Fonor for a quick and safe journey. Fonor almost always appears as a mysterious lone traveler, with a pack and a walking stick. Legends say that Fonor spends his time traversing the many roads and waterways of the world, and knows more of the land than any map will ever show.

Could you post Rundilar's info up there? I requested it about 2 weeks ago as well. These entries are really great though. Thank you.

Hey, DMShoe -- Are we likely to see some more gods' descriptions up here in the not-too-distant future?
(not that I'm intending to go cleric all of a sudden or anything...just curious about the world in which Wulf lives)
thanks,

woo-hoo! Thanks, DMShoe!
As always, the depth of detail you create for your campaigns make them a joy to play in.
Now to figure out Wulf's relationship (if any) to the gods...

Greetings,
Just wondering, are there any elven gods in your list, or are they gods of all the races?
I can't remember if I asked this question before, so I'm sorry if it is a repeat.

As there hasn't been a specification for any particular racial preferences from any of these and right now I'm feeling the umm... need I'm going to randomly select (well not so random) a god of the Elves. Also, since most of these don't have any weapons even associated with them, I'll do that for the god as well. (Don't slay me Shoe! )
Drawing on the vast store of information on Elves that I've got and the fact they tend to be rather Chaotic and Good (as well as having a tendency towards magic) I've chosen Kroten. Given that longswords are known by elves as well as bows I'm selecting longsword as the weapon of choice by Kroten. (Sounds a bit like Corellon Larethon now).
I have one question, I've never seen a god's favored weapon listed as anything but a melee weapon. Am I missing something? My biggest reason for asking is in reguards to clerics using Spiritual Weapon. It's supposed to take the form of their god's favored weapon, since I've never seen a non-melee weapon I have to assume that this spell is part of the reason, otherwise, how would the spiritual bow work?

The "standard" racial pantheon still exists -- Corellon, Moradin, Llolth, etc.
Although I've always thought it wierd that the non-human dieties are always the same from world to world (Dragonlance excepted), but the human dieties always change. *shrug*

You know that had never been made very clear before. I may / many not have done the whole Kroten thing then. On the flip side, I like that I'm using a diety figure that isn't in the norm _________________ May today there be peace within. Well, you can blame the Imperial Elven Navy for that one, at least as far as the Keebs are concerned. Dunno how the Dwarves, etc. use the same deity. Maybe they aren't scared of Spelljammers, just galleys and cogs. |
