Halfling Rogue. Sneaky, break-into-places, general skill-monkey rogue. Heading into the Extreme Explorer PrC from Eberron.

Int-based damage dealer - swashbuckler, Elf paragon, possible going Dervish (if we can alter the flavor of the Dervish text - it doesn't work right now for an urban campaign).

Or a Wizard Archer - Spellsword (spellBOW...?), Eldritch Knight.

Human Soulknife

If we start really needing healing, likely switching to a cleric of some sort--probably aiming towards Exorcist of the Silver Flame

Jesse, would you ever be willing to consider a slight modification of a current PrC's requirements? Namely, taking "Assassin" from evil to nongood? I realize the answer is probably no, but had to at least ask--it just would fit the character so well.

FYI, there is a lawful good assassin in Book of Exalted Deeds, the Slayer of Domiel. You need sneak attack 3d6, hide and move at 8 ranks each, and one or two feats (Sanctify Martial Strike or something like that). You get divine grace, sneak attack at every odd level (10lvl PrC), and a death attack (as per the Death Domain ability, not the assassin's death ability). Hope that might help.

If you're going Soulknife (which is cool), then it might be hard for you to pick up those 5 levels of rogue needed for the sneak attack req (or get it from other PrCs, but that's probably even harder and not-cool).

I'll have to say no on changing the Assassin to non-good. It is a definately very evil class where, to become you, you have to kill someone for no reason.

Exactly. The feats alone really nerf where he's going, and the rogue levels simply shoot things to hell. Hence the interest in assassin as it's much simpler to enter.

I guess the reason I was asking, Jesse, is that I was trying to find a way to shape the character into more of a government operative assassin then a simple gunman for hire. Someone trained to covertly do a "one shot kill" without attracting much attention. Hence, the nongood versus evil part. No prob, though, I will work something out.

NeurOde, check out the Dark Hunter out of Complete Warrior. Five level PrC that gets a death attack at 5th level. Might be something to consider, and if you're looking for the one shot kill concept, that'd be the way to go.

And they don't have to be evil. Very Happy

I'm going to play a Changling mutt - as in I think I'm going to have FOUR base classes: Barbarian, Fighter, Hexblade, and Ranger (Urban, if that works for you stratt). It makes sense to me since I'm a changling and have all these different persona that I can't commit to one class for too long.

And then Warshaper... Ahhh.... Twisted Evil

Yeah that sounds good. All those classes are available classes.

As for the ranger, the Urban ranger variant in Unearthed Arcana is perfectly acceptable give the Urban setting you will be in. I will have to read over it just to be certain it will work as printed in the Unearthed Arcana but I think it should be fine.

Cool.

The other concept I had was to play a first level Samurai (which isn't an allowed class) that is dishonored or has for some other reason fled his feudal lord and is hiding out in the city. That would open me up for the Ronin PrC out of Complete Warrior which could be fun with Infamy... (If someone make a DC 10 Gather Info or Knowledge nobility, they identify me as notorious and their reaction goes down one full step and I have -4 to all charisma based checks against them forever).

The samurai wouldn't work in the traditional feeling. But would they work as an indentured servant to a feudal lord?

Thoughts?

Stick to the mutt, Stevie, it'd be badass.

And thanks for the Dark Hunter tip, I'll go check it on my lunch break right now.

The samurai would still be a mutt. I'd just start my first level as Samurai and then move into the different classes; probably fighter, Hexblade, and barbarian.

Lets stay away from all the oriental adventures type classes, base classes and PrC classes too. I don't think they have a good place in the Eberron campaign as there isn't anything out there to approximate the samuri caste type society.

After reading up some more on the character, I think I will just go straight soulknife with the possibility of one level of psychic warrior or psion along the way (due to a feat I really want without waiting as long for it).

Either Deep Impact or Psionic Meditation, though I want both (as well as Greater Psionic Weapon) at some point.

I vote that you don't go Psy War for bonus feats, as your BAB is already hurting enough as it is. If you need those bonus feats, maybe dip into fighter and pick up some bonus feats that way (as in not taking the psionic-only ones...i.e. power attack, whatever).

If it is a matter of getting a bonus feat I'd say either dip into fighter or just wait a few levels and go straight soulknife.

Str 13 and Psionic Weapon

I actually have a great write-up detailing the first 7 levels of the character, but have been unable to post it despite repeated efforts for the past 16 hours. I'll try it again later.

Honestly, I will likely go with a level of psion for the feat and psionic powers.

Here's what I'm thinking right now:

Race: Human

Str: 16 (+3)
Dex: 14 (+2)
Con: 14 (+2)
Int: 10 (-)
Wis: 12 (+1)
Cha: 8 (-1)

Level 1: Soulknife (BAB +0, Fort +0, Ref +2, Will +2) Mind blade, Weapon Focus (mind blade), Wild Talent
Human Feat: Psionic Weapon
Level Feat: Dodge

Level 2: Soulknife (BAB +1, Fort +0, Ref +3, Will +3) Throw mind blade

Level 3: Soulknife (BAB +2, Fort +1, Ref +3, Will +3) Psychic Strike +1d8
Level Feat: Mobility

Level 4: Soulknife (BAB +3, Fort +1, Ref +4, Will +4) +1 mind blade
Level Ability Point (Raise Wis from 12 to 13)

Level 5: Soulknife (BAB +3, Fort +1, Ref +4, Will +4) Free draw, shape mind blade

A level of psion isn't a bad choice. Just remember to take powers that aren't solely dependant on augmentation to be of use. Force Screen would be a great power to pick. Gives you a +4 ac shield that doesn't actually count as a shield and lasts for 1 minute (pretty much all of most fights.)

Why are you going with the mobility feat? Thinking of taking spring attack?
