This bard variant retains the bardic music ability. The only thing it loses is all spell access and access to all spell related skills (spellcraft and use magical device.)

Um, but... UMD isn't a spell-related skill. That is to say, rogues -- with no magical capability or capacity, have it while wizards/sorcerors/clerics/druids/et all 'cept bards don't.

Course, I'd still rather have evasion and uncanny dodge than bardic music, but that's just me. Wink

::Kaze (would hate to have 50 ranks in each of Knowledege Arcana and Religion and still have no clue as to how to use a freakin' wand...)

Having the skill Use Magical Device implies an understanding and desire to learn how magical devices work. The skill based bard has opted to forgo all study of magic inplace of a specialized focus on skills. Thus, they lose access to Use Magical Device as a class skill. If they want to pick up the ability at a later time they find it harder to do then a regular bard would, that being reflected in the skill being a cross-class skill.
