We've had a couple spam hits the past 24 hours -- do these occur more frequently, and I just miss them because Sir Andy cleans em up quick? I mean, I don't remember seeing anything since Tyke's girlfriend posted a few months ago...
Anyway - the spam seems to be focused on php systems -- or at least when I googled a certain russian town, the front page of results was nearly all phpbb sites.
Anyway -- are these any more malicious than the space they take up? |

thanks a lot. Ok, I would have to say that the increase has been there. The first one we ever got is the one you've laughingly called my girlfriend. Umm... at present we've only gotten three others. 2 in the last 36 hours though.
Guess it's times to setup a poll for locking down all the forums to registered only *sigh*. _________________ May today there be peace within. May you trust God that you are exactly where you are meant to be. ~ Excerpt from the start of Saint Theresa's Prayer |

The newest spam is definitely not work-safe...
Tykeal, could you delete the "Nude Russian Dating" thread from General Discussion?
Thanks,

It's gone as is the user account that created it.
Hmm... it's getting to a point where I may have to consider looking into "authenticated" joins. I really don't want the administrative hassle of that (besides I don't remember if it's available).
Hmm... maybe I make all general forums "private" forums with anonymous view and then have a single regular user group that has rights to post to them. Folks would be able to create an account, but would have to pettition for access to the group.
Anyone have thoughts on this? _________________ May today there be peace within. May you trust God that you are exactly where you are meant to be. ~ Excerpt from the start of Saint Theresa's Prayer |

Requiring admin approval for an account post on such a small (78 users) forum doesn't sound like a bad idea to me. It's not like we're actively recruiting converts or anything that would create nasty overhead after the initial push. _________________ "Don't tell me he wants to conquer the world! I don't know how many of these we're getting -- this is the first I've seen this calendar year. That said, I'm not opposed to going to the group for posting (with admin intervention to add new user to posting group), anonymous is read-only. As far as I'm concerned, it's your call, based on which path makes most sense for your time
